WhatsApp the Product:

  • It’s a P2P messaging app which lets users connects with each other using their contact number
  • Users can create groups, broadcast lists, and put up stories within the Meta ecosystem or separately
  • Users also have the ability to share different forms of media like images, location, videos, links etc.

Why do I like it:

  • Helps me stay connected with my family and friends in back home
  • Ability to share things that are personal with them, without the need to put it on any other platform
  • Easy access to video calling using the Wifi without having to worry about the international call rates

    • We are in a mild recession, which we have no idea as to how long it will last. WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps, and has already acquired well over a billion users. Also, if someone has WhatsApp, they are already using it over other social media platforms to stay closer to their loved ones, and share things that they don’t wish to share to a larger audience. Therefore, I feel we are at the monetization stage for WhatsApp.

Whatsapp – An app to connect with people around the world for free. Clarifying – Can focus on the Whatsapp that consumers use? I am not very familiar with business uses , never had to need to use. so I will focus only on the one that I am familiar with Whatsapp that I use in a day to day us.

Motivation / Why? Whatsapp is to allow people to reach anyone around the world with no cost. Communicating with your loved and near and dear ones has become so easy and free.

We do not want to take away this value and disrupt the customer base. Strength of whatsapp is huge customer base which fuels facebook personalization etc.

Ecosystem

Customer – individual users who use for chatting and connecting with family, friends SB – Individual users selling products for lifestyle by creating a group that has its customer base and consistently adding products, taking orders and managing.

Pain points SB owner has about 500 -1000 customers , since whatsapp doesnt allow more than 300 users, they create multiple groups. whatsapp only allows to post their product images.

Ordering, payment return conversations all happen outside whatsapp.

SB owner has to keep track of all these info from 500 – 1000 customers and operate.

Solutions 1.

Build a whatsapp shop – that seems like chat but has the ability to Load the catalog , manage Accept payment close the order.

For customers View the catalog make a payment check the order status

Whatsapp gets a revenue share out of the payments made. Whatsapp can charge a fee for the SB owners to own a shop.

Cons – people would still like to manage outside whatsapp, but slowly they will adopt for the simplicity.

Solution 2 – Allow SB owners to advertise their products in all the chat groups that match their customer segment.

Allow the sb owners to select their customer segment and post a message to all the whatsapp groups that matches their segment and requesting them to join the whatsapp group if they like to know more about the product.

If the number of users go beyond 300 – then convert the SB owner to business account.
