Q: Estimate the number of attorneys in the US.

Clarifying Questions:
1. Are we looking at the entire US or any specific city?

A. No, Consider Entire US

Assumptions:
1. US Population : 300M

So to calculate the number of attorneys, we will first calculate the number of clients who has an attorney, and then divide the number with an average number of clients per attorney to get the final result.

Assuming three people per family, the number of families in US: 100M
Based on the income, we will divide the families into three categories:

1. Upper Class – 15%  = 15M
2. Middle Class – 40% = 40M
3. Lower Middle Class – 30% =30M
4. Lower Class – 15% = 15M

Usually, Upper Class people are into businesses and keep a lawyer to manage all the legal activies. Working class people (Upper Middle Class and Lower Middle Class) are able to afford attorneys and usually have a family attorneys to deal with any legal issues.

So The Client Base:

Class No of Clients Total
Upper – 80% 0.8*15 12M
Working Class – 50% 0.5*70 35M
Non – Working Class – 30% 0.3*15 4.5M

Considering the Level and Experience of Attorneys, Experienced Attorneys will deal with High Working Class clients with an average of 8 clients per attorney as they have to work throughout the year frequently.

The Others will have around 15 clients (atleast 1 client per month) per attorney as they are not exactly employed under the client but only work on a case to case basis

Total Number of Attorneys in US = 12/8 + 38.5/15 = 1.5+2.5 = 4M
