Summarizing the Goal

Design a toothbrush for humans with a primary goal of keeping the teeth cavity-free and healthy, with a secondary goal of providing optimal comfort while brushing teeth. without causing any side effects

Users:

  1. Toddlers

  2. Kids

  3. Teens

  4. Adults

  5. Elderly

65% of the US population is age 15-65 category so let’ focus on adults as the target user. Which is the largest market segment for personal hygiene items such as toothbrush.

Pain points:

  • Existing toothbrush is not the right quality, softness, effectiveness

  • Not env friendly needs regular replacement, leading to plastic waste

  • cost/too many options available to choose from.

  • Some users have physical limitation where they cannot clearly follow which area needs proper brushing inside their mouth.

Proposed solution:

  1. Customize the toothbrush: Offer users to complete a quiestainnaire to understand their issues faced by users with their existing toothbrush, whether they have any gums related problem, type of food they eat, preferred softness/firm ness of the toothbrush.

  2. Toothbrush with biodegradable material such as bamboo

  3. Offer extra soft, soft, medium and firm toothbrush varieties.

  4. North Start: A smart toothbrush that enables guided brushing workflow via app

    1. User can view the instructions on their phone app

    2. The app guides user visually by showing a diagram of the jaw/teeth and areas that are missed.

Prioritization:

  • I would recommend a toothbrush will be available in extra soft, soft, medium and firm toothbrush varieties bristles

  • starting off with a toothbrush design that is made of biodegradable material such as bamboo.
  • The toothbrush can come with smart features such as guided brushing for users

Summary:

  1. I would build a toothbrush with biodegradable material that comes in multiple softness varieties such as extra soft, soft, medium, and hard.

  2. As a north star metric, I would recommend a toothbrush subscription service that allows users to try out different samples when they subscribe over 12 month period.

  3. Another north start feature is to offer smart toothbrush that can sense the way the user is brushing their teeth and guide them via a mobile App towards the areas that are missed or need more focus.
