If you are in Netflix, what you do to help Netflix grow 10x in India? Why do you feel Netflix has not grown in India.?
- Pankaj Jain
To solve the above problem and truly connect with the Indian audiences, Here are the solutions/ proposal I propose based on the research and analysis-
[Assumption- Features should be available for Netflix Mobile India only]
Dub the already existing American/European/Asian content in local Indian Languages (preferably Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu).
English is a language widely adopted by the majority of the Indian population. When it comes to watching movies and shows, people still prefer to watch things they can understand and relate to easily. The success of the English dubbed Spanish TV drama series Money Heist on Netflix and the Hindi dubbed Turkish TV Drama series Day-Dreamer on Mx TakaTak, made it very clear that the good content and story sells no matter what. Netflix must make sure that the already existing content is available in the local Indian languages for the Netflix mobile subscription plan users. Since people in India create and watch most of the content and shows in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, it is wise to dub the existing movies in these three languages first. Moreover, nowadays, most producers and Bollywood celebrities are purchasing rights to recreate foreign TV Series and Movies in Hindi.
Add local Payment wallet methods to buy Netflix subscriptions. Like- Paytm, PhonePe, MobiKwik etc.
With the introduction of the New Netflix Mobile Plan ($2.80), Netflix made it very clear that they want to convert people of Rural India into paid subscribers but forget to add a wallet or Cash payment method option. The people who belong to this section of the country are most comfortable with these options. Unlike People in the US, UK, and Canada, where people prefer to buy stuff using credit cards and debit cards, people in Rural India by till day prefer local payment options like wallets or paying via Cash.
Develop more local Indian content
Netflix is spending loads of money creating new local content, but the challenge lies in what language they should choose to develop this content. India has 22 languages. And you will meet people of entirely different cultures, lifestyles, and ethics every 500km. Trust me! It’s extremely tough to create movies and shows in all these languages. However, the top three languages people are comfortable with while watching videos are Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Netflix needs to provide the new content in a minimum of three languages.
Partner with YouTube Influencers to create content in Indian local languages for Netflix Mobile India
Netflix also promotes new shows and movies through popular Indian Youtube Influencers on its Youtube channel, but very little they know is that they create good content that people and kids watch online. Netflix could produce quality content at affordable prices for their new Netflix Mobile users.
