Context: I will stick to mobile/web application instead of any physical solutions. I am not restricting it to indian/american weddings (keeping it geography independent) to cover majority of use cases. I would still restrict it to christian Indians and keep the market to US to begin with and expand the score further. I will not consider any parent brand restrictions in terms of features/positioning etc.

Users:

  • Bride & groom
    • any age group, tech savvy, spend about 2-3 months planning the whole wedding, stressed about wedding
  • Close family, friends & bridesmaids etc. helping them with marriage
    • any age group, take out time from their day to day activities to help the bride and groom, are time deficit, want to find easy ways to get a job done
  • People who want to gift the couple
    • want to find right choice to gift, any age group, tech savvy

User needs using 5W method:

1. Bride/groom

– before wedding (when)

Gift choices:

– want to make sure the gifts are useful

– want to be able to pool money and buy some items post marriage

Pain point: have to manually call/inform on social media channels

Around wedding:

– want to communicate venue & dates of wedding

Pain point: Receiving unnecessary gifts, not being able to communicate openly what they want

Around gifts listing:

– must be able to know optimal number of products/experinces to list

– want to be able to add /delete based on already done products

– want to be able to add any personal note on each product/experience to give personal feel

– want to be able to provide wide range of gifting options for different kind of people and their choices

Pain point: forgetting to send note and forgetting who gifted which item

After receiving gifts:

– want to express gratitude after receiving gifts

– want to send a ‘Thank you’ note after receiving with how they are using  the gift

– also would want to share any pictures from wedding

– would want to send pictures using those products/experiences

Gifts summary:

– want to remember who gifted which item in a simple format

2. Close family, friends & bridesmaids etc. helping them with marriage
Painpoint for bride/groom : don’t know which gifts to pick, ask for suggestions and organize reviews

– want to be able to suggest kind of gifts to wishlist

– must be able to add note/add to wishlist for bride/groom to confirm the gift

3. People who want to gift the couple
Painpoint: don’t know what to gift, thinks their gift will be lost in the crowd and will not be used

– want to be able to find something they can contribute/gift entirely (kind of product/experience, range of product, individual/group, must be able to know which are available and which are already done)

– want to be able to add a personal note

– want to be able to keep their gifting public/discreet

– want to be able to see others gifts

User needs through word associations

    • catering
    • venue booking
    • decorations
    • availability
    • cards & invitations
  • Bride/groom

    • assigning jobs to friends & family (identified new need)
    • being aware of timings of each occasion

    • want to be able to give gift in public (identified new need)

User needs through scamper:

  • Put to another use : Wedding registry can also be extended to birthday registeries, any other big occasion registries

Prioritization:

  • V1 of the solution will ofcourse be around basic registry while expanding scope to planning and cross selling other acitivies involved in wedding

Recommendation:

  • would be to build a simple site by collaborating with vendors and accomodate for multiple users
