Localization Quality Manager

Localization Manager

• Spearheaded localization effort in support of 49 language launches over the course of 4 years including site content, marketing collateral (print, audio and video dubbing), CS touch points and help content, ad-hoc messaging, etc.
• Managed a team of 4 FTEs, 12 PTEs and 4 vendors to provide end-to-end localization services for a global workforce (San Francisco, Shanghai, Madrid) including internal tool development, test engineering, internationalization resources, project management, translation and linguistic quality evaluation.
• Implemented a content translation pipeline focusing on consistent expectations, churn reduction, automation and quality.
• Defined a translation effort model pitting quality vs. cost: markets/languages with unknown ROI translate with speed and cost savings in mind; as market importance grows, resourcing and scrutiny can be ramped up as needed.
• Built an in-house localization QA testing platform for automating the capture of in-product screenshots for new strings, evaluating translations in-context, scoring and categorizing errors and turning that data into better quality translations and actionable insights for content owners.
• Defined 5 localization metrics for inclusion in company data portal as a measure of our team’s impact on company revenue and as a comparable quantification when setting quarterly objectives and milestones.
• Completed a 9-month RFP to upgrade the translation management system with focus on future compatibility with planned engineering stack changes, ability to cost model and measure translation efficiency and ability to self customize workflows and automations to keep up with the changing needs of the business.
• Advocated for Product & Engineering teams’ Definition of Done (Agile) to include L10n and content strategy requirements.
• Piloted a user research and market exploration program for evaluating local sentiment and sensitivities as related to potential ROI within the context of language and terminology.

Localization Program Manager

• Developed and spearheaded localization strategy to drive international user growth metrics.
• Inaugurated and acted as a relationship manager for a homegrown community of 2,500 Coursera users who volunteered their time to translate course subtitles from English into 5-15 languages .
• Drove project management for one including scoping, budgeting, resource allocation, scheduling, QA and risk management live-updated on company intranet for transparency.
• Developed and enforced company-wide translation content quality control processes by adopting LISA Quality Evaluation Standard (through random selection scoring by a third-party vendor) and boosted our volunteer-sourced translation quality by 36% in the first 6 months on average across 15 available courses.

• Collaborated with Product and Engineering teams to drive internal localization tool development, e.g. automated pipeline for extracting video subtitle text to translation platform and back.
• Ran monthly one-on-one meetings with a dozen functional leads and executives to showcase my team’s achievements and roadblocks, solicit feedback, look for shared opportunities and communicate the overall value of localization.

Localization Project Manager, Mobile
