“Design is the rendering of intent.” This quote from Jared Spool has me thinking a lot about my field lately.
How might that rendering be achieved with respect to education? Learning design is the rendering of …?

Learning design is broader than instructional design and that’s where I find myself now – at the center of a Venn diagram where technology, pedagogy, teachers’ needs, and students’ needs all overlap.

I design and build online and hybrid courses for Lesley University’s undergraduate, graduate, and Threshold programs. In partnership with faculty, instructional librarians, and other academic staff I develop rigorous and engaging learning experiences for our students. Through training, coaching, and other professional development offerings, I also prepare and support Lesley’s instructors to provide rich facilitation.

Key considerations in my work:
— learning design for traditional graduate and undergraduate students, adult learners, and learners with cognitive disabilities or other special needs
— teaching and learning, education technology, language learning
— Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Community of Inquiry (COI), instructional/pedagogical frameworks
— design thinking, accessibility, UX, LX (learning experience design)
