About the Team 

The Core Systems and Operations team is a cross-functional team comprised of Designers and Software Engineers that builds and maintains the College Board Design System and core Content Management System used for building digital products and websites.  The team drives the adoption of the College Board’s brand architecture and widget library that is used across digital products and sites for all major College Board programs and products as well as the roadmap and feedback loops for the College Board’s core Content Management System (CMS), which is used to power over 50 sites.   


About the Opportunity  

As our Core Systems and Operations Product Manager, you create a cross-portfolio vision for Design System and Content Management System, that enables the College Board to build quality products at scale.  You set the top-level goals, objectives, and success metrics for the portfolio, driving the direction for the product team, as well as diving deep for some initiatives to act as the product manager to create a vision and maintain a roadmap for a product and directly support the execution for the product.  You clearly communicate, partner, and negotiate with internal College Board stakeholders across all programs and products to ensure alignment with the overarching mission and objectives of the organization.  You foster a close collaboration between Product, Design, and Technology, understanding that these are the three core functions needed to bring product concepts to market. 

In this role, you will:  

  • Define a portfolio product vision, finding new and innovative ways to scale product delivery safely and efficiently 

  • Work with Designers to ideate product concepts that position College Board strategically within the ed tech space 

  • Identify assumptions to test and validate with users to ensure there is product value and market fit 

  • Collaborate with product development teams to determine flexible product architectures that enable future development and integration opportunities 

  • Develop and communicate a cross-portfolio product vision and roadmap and maintain the roadmap as market needs and internal priorities evolve 

  • Ensure alignment of portfolio roadmap to market needs and organizational/program goals and priorities 

  • Understand customer needs and validate solutions? 

  • Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to reduce operational complexity and risk 

  • Proactively define and communicate the product portfolio’s Goals, Objectives, and KPIs and support product managers and product owners in establishing quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the products that drive action focused on outcomes (vs. outputs) 

  • Deliver the highest priority features on the product roadmap that are aligned to the product vision and organizational priorities.  

  • Manage the intake of new priorities or changes to existing priorities, evaluating the impact of changing course and working with key stakeholder to maintain focus 

  • Understand, prioritize, and manage the flow of initiatives and features? and participate in planning activities 

  • Collaborate with product managers to define roadmaps and gain a shared understanding of work within product teams?backlogs 

  • Collaborate with product managers to glean insights from user and product data to help shape the direction of the product roadmap and prioritization 

  • Give feedback to product managers and product owners during demonstrations of product roadmaps, designs and completed work? 

  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure continued adoption of products and services 

  • Develop and update training, support materials, manuals, and communications for new product features. 

  • Communicate product updates to stakeholders. 

  • Collaborate with internal functional areas to identify and implement changes to the product’s implementation processes, program policies, and operational support model. 

  • Act as product manager for key initiatives   

  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver on initiatives and features, as needed 

  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to develop launch plans and on-going test-learn-iterate strategies  


About You

You have: 

  • 8+ years relevant experience 

  • 4+ years direct experience with design systems and/or content management systems 

  • Experience mentoring product managers and product owners 

  • Experience managing a portfolio of products that serve internal and external customers  

  • Experience managing a product from inception through design to implementation and launch 

  • Experience working in an Agile product development work environment and managing the backlog of a full product team (research, design, content, development) 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to complete complex tasks on short deadlines and in a fast-past environment 

  • Track record of being both an outstanding teammate and a leader who can align partners around a shared vision as well as influencing across an organization. 

  • Systems-thinking – understanding how various parts of the product and platform fit together into a comprehensive solution. 

  • Knowledge of front end engineering technologies, frameworks, & best practices. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of design principles and experience working directly with designers to deliver excellent customer experiences. 

  • Knowledge of and experience with WCAG / accessibility / universal design
