First Databank (FDB) is looking for an experienced Product Manager with knowledge of the healthcare to develop and grow an exciting consumer-oriented product line that expands our highly successful medication content and software products into the medication adherence and patient engagement category. As Product Manager, you will be joining a company that is privileged to work with a large and continually growing customer base and is driven by our mission to improve the use of medications and health outcomes more broadly. We are looking for someone with 2 – 5 years of software product management experience in the health care space to champion the development and commercialization of software and content products related to patient/consumer use of medications and aimed at healthcare developers and users. The right candidate must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, a deep understanding of the workings of healthcare and the drive to make the vision a reality. This individual will quarterback an interdisciplinary team including clinical and engineering counterparts to define product release requirements. She or he will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and the target customer. This role will serve as the internal and external evangelist for the FDB consumer-facing content solutions, working with the sales channel and key customers. This position will assume accountability for product profitability.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Meducation and consumer content solutions, including market and customer research, market analysis, and competitive analysis.
  • Understand customer problems and work with colleagues and customers to find innovative solutions for the broader market.
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to define the go-to market strategy, helping them to understand the product value proposition, position, key benefits, and the target customer profile.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the achievement of product line business goals and objectives, including increasing product line volumes and revenue.
  • Determine which activities will produce the most business value and which features of a product are most important to overall success.
  • Responsible for obtaining and prioritizing product and customer requirements and guiding the team toward a successful product vision.
  • Build products from existing ideas and help to develop and implement new ideas based on a variety of factors including market research, industry experience, and contact with customers and prospects.
  • Manage the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities.
  • Coordinate project planning and organization; facilitate group effectiveness and encourage motivation.
  • In conjunction with the Finance Department and others, creation of a business cases to obtain funding for the product development projects.

Required Skills

  • 2 + years of product management experience for commercially successful healthcare software products, preferably a SAAS-based solution.
  • Critical thinking skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of approaches to problems and potential solutions.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • An understanding of the healthcare industry and the needs of users of healthcare information systems in clinical, pharmacy, payer, and other settings. Knowledge of the healthcare workflows and stakeholders is essential.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across different disciplines and locations to achieve results.
  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical personnel, including the ability to effectively present to customers and other outside audiences.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

  • Clinical Degree or Masters in related field a plus

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in San Francisco, CA. The reasonable estimate, if hired in San Francisco, is $136,000 – $185,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in location. If this role is open to candidates outside of location, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
