Skills Breakdown

Microsoft 365 Copilot’s mission is to be your copilot for work, combining the power of AI with your data in the Microsoft Graph and the Microsoft 365 apps to turn your words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet. Copilot helps users to unleash creativity, harnessing the power of large language models so they never have to start from scratch. It unlocks productivity, and optimizes their time by summarizing insights and information, allowing them to focus on what’s most important.

We’re looking for an experienced Principal Product Manager in M365 Copilot Platform team, who can lead innovation and collaborate across Microsoft’s product teams to define a multi-year strategy for this area. This is fundamentally about two things: (1) product thinking as to how the platform capabilities can enable our 1P/3P partners to solve real customer needs across Microsoft 365 copilot experiences and (2) what is the right approach to generate large-scale runtime stack and quality evaluation platform capabilities that involves considering a wide range of technical, product, and business factors to ensure that the platform meets the needs of our users and partners. Join us and lead the way in shaping the future of M365 Copilot Platform.

The Role: This person will be asked to take our v1 offering and build a plan for hyper-scale adoption and usage while creating magical moments in our M365 copilot experiences. You will drive the vision and strategy across your portfolio and sell our big bets to our executives, ensuring that we have their support. You will work across engineering teams to drive architecture decisions, UX teams to influence how this content shows up, finance teams to drive business models, and compliance and legal teams to ensure we’re building a solution that customers feel great about adopting. We are a platform team so technical background is needed, and while we don’t directly own user experiences, you’ll utilize good product instincts to guide how the platform capabilities will create value across of apps.

The Group: This team is part of the Copilot & Search Platform group which is focused on delivering the platform capabilities that underpin the broader M365 Copilot system and Microsoft Search product. You’ll work closely with the PM leaders within this group to deliver combined value across a wide set of partners and scenarios. This group is part of larger Microsoft 365 Core which builds the infrastructure, platforms, AI/ML and collaboration & communications backbone for Microsoft 365.

You: We all bring something different to the table, and no doubt you do, too. With that in mind, we are looking for diversity of backgrounds to build a well-rounded, flexible, nurturing, and healthy team that can execute incredibly well today and evolve for the future. You’ll have a lot of experience across things like creating and executing on platform strategies, thinking about the “Platform as the Product”, distributed cloud services, partner collaboration, competitor analysis, core PM skills like product planning, prioritization techniques, OKRs, and data analytics, etc. All facets are beneficial for this role and our team; the more of these you have, the better.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Thinking – Our v1 is just getting going. There’s a lot that we could do. We need someone who can help outline WHAT, WHY, and WHEN. We need someone who thrives when thinking about how to drive non-linear growth. This will require customer research, ideation & brainstorming, value judgements and developing business models. You’ll need to be able to step above the day-to-day and think long-term to give your team a vision.
  • Curiosity and Customer Empathy – We’re looking for PMs who are curious and seek to deeply understand our customers, internal partners, and their challenges. We need someone who keeps digging past the simple customer ask to reveal their true, unmet needs, leading to innovative and high value features.
  • Technical Horsepower – This is a platform PM role and you’ll be expected to participate and influence architectural conversations.
  • Communicator – This is a heavily influential role that requires a communicator who can influence our senior leadership through written and oral communication.
  • Collaborator – Partnering with others is at the heart of this role. You’ll not only partner with an immediate dev team, but also partner across your peers across the globe. Great collaborators aren’t just easy to work with – they also raise tough questions, challenge others as necessary and negotiate win/win solutions.
  • Teammate – We seek people who help each other, solve problems together, motivate others. People who are caring and want to create a healthy environment. We’re also looking for folks who want to have fun and can apply the term “team” at the broadest level – irrespective of organizational boundaries.
