Position Specific Description
NextEra Analytics is the optimization and analytics team for the world’s largest renewable energy generator. We are currently seeking a Market Optimization Manager — this position is available for remote work to competitive candidates. This position is responsible for leading a team of engineers on designing, developing, and benchmarking effective electricity market trading and plant dispatch strategies for utility-scale and C&I customers. This is an algorithmic product team that implements automated software solutions for monetizing energy storage, hybrid aggregations, and other market participation models through mastery of market rules and regulations, forecasting of price and other market conditions, and optimizing bidding and dispatch behavior. The current technical staff has proven success and is core to the NextEra 360 Energy Optimization Platform. The Team Will Lead On
In this role, you will be interacting with asset managers, schedulers, facility operators, and risk managers to prioritize new and existing opportunities for algorithms/models that increase valuation of our trading, origination, and asset optimization decisions.
Implementing solutions leveraging operations research and electricity market fundamentals for scheduling and trade support products,Abstractions for scalability of products to new ISO markets and customization of techniques for different customer use cases and market participant models,Presenting capabilities and outcomes of strategies to new and existing customers and partners.
The job duties and responsibilities of the Manager for this team are as follows:
Solid quantitative and technical skills to lead the R&D of new design and implementation,Coordination with other management on tracking market/retail and regulatory changes that can impact current algorithm performance,Coordination with other management on benchmarking and performance reporting of algorithm performance in production,Communicates updates and presentations, both formal and informal, to varying levels of management and external customers,Leadership in the supervision, training, and development of direct reports.
Required Qualifications
A track record of converting novel ideas into software solutions or peer-reviewed publicationsPrior experience in operations research techniques, machine learning/deep learning or forecasting applied to an energy domain problem Strong background in electricity market fundamentals (e.g., unit commitment, economic dispatch, power flow), and market products and market participation models in one or more ISOs5+ years experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in production cost modeling and power flow modelingExperience presenting technical material to a non-technical audienceFluency in Git and Python/R/JuliaPhD qualifications in related field
