/ What is Shibuya??

A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya Inc. (“Shibuya”) is building the online home for emerging music creators and interactive consumption experiences leveraging generative AI. Our ambition is nothing short of being “the” music platform for the next generation.

Shibuya was founded by former Spotify Execs, and is proudly backed by some of the world’s best venture capital funds, including Mantis, BoxGroup, SV Angel, Common Metal, Gold House, Quiet Capital, Liquid2, RRE, and ConsenSys. Our Advisory Board includes executives from Spotify, YouTube, Twitch, Amazon, Audible, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Giphy, Warner Music Group, Sony Music, UMG, Avex, et al. Our Creator Advisory Board includes Grammy Award-winning artists and artist Managers.

We pride ourselves on solving the most challenging problems in the emerging AI music space, developing an incredibly flat, low-ego, and playful culture, and hiring the most talented creative technologists in the world. Together, we’re developing the future of music. Are you up for it?

/ And what exactly do you want me to do…?

We’re seeking a founding Lead Product Manager (reporting to CEO) to join our team and fill a pivotal role in shaping the direction and success of our product offering(s) and company. As our Product Manager, you will be an energetic thought-partner to the CEO, hands-on contributor for our product development and strategy, and relentless innovator and builder. In your role, you’ll be responsible for the following:

  • Own and act as the Voice of the User(s);
  • Work closely with the team to define problems, ideate solutions, and design the path forward;
  • Lead user and market research, ethnography and user interviews, end-to-end design and development of personas, user journeys, prototypes, product features, and our overall platform;
  • Translate CEO’s vision and “big ideas” into actionable, simple, and elegant solutions / prototypes – maintain a sense of MVP while delivering thoughtful product and feature sequencing;
  • Institute and maintain a relentless test-and-learn cadence among the team, including deploying live product experiments and gathering user feedback on a daily basis without exception;
  • Build and maintain our “design partner” community, and religiously promote a sense of user-centricity amongst our team as you constantly gather user-level feedback and input;
  • Translate ambiguous user problems and ambiguous – or grandiose – solutions into simple, clear, and sticky solutions, and drive the team to ship product at breakneck pace;
  • Maintain a holistic understanding of our product strategy and be fearless in pushing our team;
  • Act like a founder.

/ Sounds great, but why me?

You have a deep understanding of end-users, solution design, prototyping, and product development with a proven track record of shipping product(s) at an unparalleled velocity. No project is too big nor too small, and impossible is nothing. Below we’ve outlined some preferred qualifications:

  • One of the most technically-proficient, creative, and ambitious product managers in the world;
  • 8+ years of experience in product management including leadership roles, preferably at consumer internet companies, ideally in/around the media, social, gaming, and/or AI space;
  • Prolific tinkerer with either a design or computer science background, with a “hands-on-keys” and lead-by-doing approach (i.e., a “do-er” not just a manager) able to ship experiments end-to-end without support;
  • Familiarity in AI-based technologies and applications, in particular in foundational large language models, deep learning and adversarial networks, neural networks, and media applications;
  • Familiarity in media, music, and audio streaming products, technologies, and applications;
  • Thrive in ambiguity, autonomy, creative problem-solving, and fast-paced startup environments;
  • Equally as comfortable acting as an independent contributor designing and shipping prototypes as building and leading a scaled product team;
  • Experience going “0 to 1” or “1 to 100” highly preferred (in a startup or corporate environment);
  • A low to no-ego team player who just loves to get shit done and ship;
  • Love for culture, technology, and music.

/ Okay, but actually . . . why you?

Shibuya offers the opportunity to help build the future of the music industry alongside some of the smartest, most creative, and most technically talented people in the world – with the support of some of the best venture capitalists, music industry execs, and artists you could ask for.

To support you, we provide a competitive compensation, equity, and benefit package, including health insurance, 401k, technology stipends, a hybrid working environment, and unlimited PTO (and playlists).

We’re also extremely committed to fostering a team-focused, low-ego, and incredibly fast-moving entrepreneurial culture. To that end, everyone who joins Shibuya is expected to act like a founder. That means adopting a working culture of extreme ownership, radical self-reliance, and relentless creativity.

Oh, and we’re fun. 🙂

/ I’m sold. How do I join?

Apply on LinkedIn. If possible, please provide links to your website / portfolio / git / whatever we should see.
