How You’ll Make a Difference
As the Design System Product Manager, you will be responsible for facilitating the vision, delivery, adoption, and governance of the design system across our company. You will play a pivotal role in unifying our ecosystem of digital experiences, ensuring a consistent, intuitive, and high-quality user experience across all platforms. Your work will drive the evolution of our design system, promoting efficiency, consistency, and collaboration across design and development teams and ultimately enhancing the interaction our customers have with our company’s digital interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Design System Strategy: Develop and drive the strategy and vision for the design system, aligning it with the overall product and design goals of the organization. Define the scope, purpose, and principles of the design system. Design System Development: Lead the creation, maintenance, and evolution of the design system, including the establishment of design patterns, components, and guidelines. Collaborate with designers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the design system meets their needs and supports efficient design workflows. Governance and Documentation: Establish governance processes and standards for the design system, including version control, documentation, and change management. Ensure the design system is well-documented and easily accessible to the design and development teams. Contribution Model Process: Establish and manage a contribution model process for the design system, allowing designers, developers, and other stakeholders to contribute to the evolution and improvement of the design system. This includes defining guidelines and criteria for contributions, creating documentation and tools to facilitate the contribution process, and ensuring that contributions align with the design system’s principles and standards. Training and Support: Provide training and support to designers and developers on using the design system effectively. Help them understand and leverage the tools, design patterns, components, and guidelines to create consistent and high-quality designs. This includes a regularly scheduled Figma working session to test and introduces new components in our UI kit. Design System Advocacy: Act as an advocate for the design system, promoting its adoption and importance to stakeholders at various levels of the organization. Collaborate with leadership to secure resources and support for the ongoing development and maintenance of the design system. Collaboration and Communication: Foster collaboration and communication among cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and product managers. Educate and evangelize the value and benefits of the design system, promoting its adoption and usage across the organization. Ceremonies – Ownership of all design system-related ceremonies, such as sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Backlog – Ownership of the design system backlog, ensuring it is well-maintained, organized, and prioritized based on strategic objectives and user needs. Working closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, understand pain points, and identify opportunities for improvement in the design system. Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess and refine the design system based on user feedback, industry best practices, and evolving design and technology trends. Identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements to ensure the design system remains relevant and valuable.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
A track record in delivering design systems for global organizations. Expertise in design tools, standards, and UI/UX principles. Familiarity with CSS, SASS, and ReactUnderstanding of the distinction between a design system and a component library and methods of integration between the two across several technical areas, including HTML, CSS, React, Style Dictionary, and Design Tokens. The ability to explain the technical feasibility of the adoption of the design system as it depends upon the platform/solutions being used. Comfortable maintaining relationships with various internal and external parties, working collaboratively to promote the adoption of the design system. Exceptional presentation, communication, and collaboration skills, along with a genuine passion for engaging with consumers and stakeholders to evangelize the design system. An understanding of and appreciation for front-end development and developers.
